"You can come here, instantly sign on to a doctor, sign on your wife and various offspring, have any number of appointments and treatments, all without having paid anything in"?
Well, how does any doctor or nurse who sees you know that you yourself are not in that position? How do they know that you are a British citizen? What proof are you required to produce? What proof would you be willing to be required to produce?
And not necessarily proof of British citizenship, either. EU nationals do not pay the NHS surcharge, and there is no suggestion that they should, Brexit or no Brexit. It is no wonder that certain MPs with Commonwealth backgrounds are rightly so keen to be rid of it.
