"Representative Democracy Should As Far As Possible Be Abolished In The Party"

It is not often that North West Durham Constituency Labour Party can claim to be ahead of the curve.

But the new General Secretary of the Labour Party has been on record for 20 years that CLPs ought to have no say in the selection of parliamentary candidates, and ought in most respects to be dismantled.

In 2017, North West Durham CLP meekly fell into line behind a parliamentary candidate over whom it had had no say, indeed none of its leading figures had ever met her and several could not name her.

She underwent no reselection process in 2019, and ever since she lost her seat the CLP has been baldly announcing her as the candidate for 2024, so that's that.

It is not often that North West Durham Constituency Labour Party can claim to be ahead of the curve.
