Lord Sumption is no more a virologist or an epidemiologist than I am.
He is a distinguished historian of the Middle Ages, and to date he is the only person ever to have been appointed directly from the Bar to the Supreme Court.
But his new fan club believes that the Supreme Court ought not to exist, and it is unlikely to see how Medieval History was "useful".
Yet give a fancy title to an Old Etonian, and those fans go weak at the knees. If you have fallen for the Sumption Assumption, then that is what you are.
