Notes from the Mission Field

This is your weekly reminder that there has been a liberal coup in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. See also this, this, this, this and this. Not that it need necessarily last long. While still getting used to being older and lighter than the Prime Minister, I now find that I am also older and lighter than the priest. He already owns a copy of my book, so I must be big in Nigeria.

What isn't? The Holy Father's remarks about priestly celibacy were of course a complete non-story. There have always been married priests. The question was, and is, how many, and what they were doing. Those  considerations are not doctrinal, but pastoral. Everyone who knows the first thing about the subject knows this, since this is the first thing about the subject. And when Nigeria can send a priest to Lanchester, then there is obviously no shortage of priests under the current arrangements. Well, nowhere that ran no risk of a liberal coup, anyway.
