In the Blair years, the Police used to have "Vote Labour" emblazoned on their marked cars, and the Government gave them breathtaking new powers, even attempting to allow them to lock people up for 90 days without so much as charging them with anything.
But then they turned out to be beating, raping and murdering middle-class white people as well as the Old Labour classes and hues such as Jean Charles de Menezes, and here we are. Yet Keir Starmer has closer ties to the Police, and mostly to the Metropolitan Police, than any other frontline British politician since Sir Robert Peel. The Left-Right alliance that did for Cressida Dick can do for him. Up and at it.
