Working From Home, Indeed

On 10th December 1997, a left-wing Labour MP, the late Audrey Wise, asked in the House of Commons "why childcare is work when it is done by a stranger, but not when it is done by the child's mother or father"? She received no answer, and it remains a very good question.

Harriet Harman's cuts to benefits for lone parents were then passed with the support of the Conservatives, and here we are. With the question still unanswered, why is childcare work when it is done by a stranger, but not when it is done by the child's mother or father?

  1. It's amazing how many people still think they can be pro-family while supporting Thatcherism, neoliberalism and all that.

    1. I wish that I still could be amazed at that.
