In Fear of My Life

Britain has the highest number of deaths from Covid-19 in Europe, and the second highest in the world. Poorer areas such as the North East are particular blackspots. I live in the North East.

I have a lifelong susceptibility to coronavirus infections. I have a weakened immune system due to a colectomy 12 years ago. I am BAME. I am a man. The combination of gastric problems, rampant arthritis, and good old middle age, means that I would probably now count as obese.

And the idea of any lifting or even easing of the lockdown almost literally frightens the life out of me.

I don't give a damn about your football or your cool summer parties. If the lockdown were lifted or eased any time soon, then this country would declare to the rest of us, once and for all, that it was prepared to end our lives for the sake of your lifestyle.
