Better late than never from The Observer?
If only there had ever been a major Party Leader who had been so committed to ending Britain's poisonous relationship with Saudi Arabia, that he had put such a commitment in not one, but two, General Election manifestos.
I despise Mike Ashley, to get that out of the way, and I am horrified at the impending acquisition of Newcastle United Football Club by the Public Investment Fund of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia has one of the worst human rights records on earth. Its treatment of women is horrific. Its war on Yemen is the cause of the gravest humanitarian crisis in the world today.
Jews, of whom there are many on Tyneside, are not permitted to enter Saudi Arabia. Homosexual acts are punishable by death, as is conversion to Christianity.
Saudi Arabia engages in piracy against the Premier League, making it the only country where Premier League football can be watched only by illegal means.
It is the global centre of Islamist terrorism, funding and directing attacks, both against British Armed Forces personnel in several countries, and right here on the streets of the United Kingdom.
Its ownership of Newcastle United would make the club and the city a target for all of its enemies, many of whom are violent in the extreme.
And the collapse in the price of oil means that Saudi Arabia is very probably no longer good for the money to buy Newcastle United or anything else, anyway.
