Confirmation Bias

In the furore around Brett Kavanaugh, we see the rancid Democratic Party of Hillary Clinton against the rancid Republican Party of Donald Trump. We see walking, talking, screaming pussy hats versus walking, talking, screaming MAGA hats.

We see what the clash would be between the Labour Party under anyone other than Jeremy Corbyn, for all his faults, and the Conservative Party under anyone other than Theresa May, for all her faults. We see Chuka Umunna versus Boris Johnson.

Our completely Americanised commentariat assumes that liberal "centrism" and right-wing "populism", which when expressed as distinct parties were in fact the two biggest losers at last year's General Election, are what the voters of this entirely different country really want.

Mercifully, the commentariat is wrong about that, as it is about so very many other things. But although they will officially have been elected under other banners, there are still going to be plenty of "centrists" and "populists" in the next House of Commons.

Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and our people need to hold the balance of power in it. My crowdfunding page is here, or email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com for other options. That address accepts PayPal.
