I feel genuinely sorry for David Davis. He thought that his resignation would matter, and it just didn't.
That was also true of Boris Johnson, but at least he was not famous for being a politician in the first place, and certainly not for being a principled one.
Against Chequers or whatever had become of it, the entire Opposition will be joined in the Division Lobby by a handful of professional eccentrics.
A number of those will then be deselected by their local Conservative Associations, while a disproportionately high number of the rest will lose their seats.
