Where's The Justice?

If they had stuck to the issues, then his opponents could have beaten Brett Kavanaugh. But instead, they made it about #MeToo and #IBelieveHer. Since they could not prove a word of that, he has won.

Forget about abortion, on which he is in any case not quite sound, and which the Republican Party would never dream of trying to restrict, since that would remove the reason why it was supported by, in any case, a dying section of its base.

Forget about same-sex marriage. It is impossible to imagine either Congress or any state legislature voting to repeal that now. In fact, it is as good as impossible to imagine that such legislation might even be proposed now.

But do not forget about torture, or Guantánamo Bay, or mass surveillance, or workers' rights, or consumer protection, or environmental responsibility, or treaties with Native Americans, or healthcare for people with pre-existing conditions. People like me, in fact.

Do not forget about the President's supposed immunity from indictment, or about his supposed power to pardon himself.

If they had stuck to the issues, then his opponents could have beaten Brett Kavanaugh. But instead, they made it about #MeToo and #IBelieveHer. Since they could not prove a word of that, he has won.

And, on either side, for what? So that the Republicans can never win an election in 30 or 40 years, and so that the Democrats can never be able to do anything, anyway.

But then, the Democrats had never intended to do anything, anyway.
