Yes, I would have voted against this lockdown. I am not opposed to one in principle. This one has been imposed too late, which is why it is going to last far longer than it should have done. But its regulatory framework is a shambles, quite possibly in something approaching the literal sense of the word.
And at the end, we shall be expected to go back to the tier system, with its heavy favouritism towards London, the South East, and places that have been returning Conservative MPs since the nineteenth century rather than since 2019.
Labour and the Liberal Democrats have voted for this lockdown on that understanding. But I am a declared and active candidate for the parliamentary seat of North West Durham at the next General Election. Please give generously.
