Never Intentionally Set Out?

Another day, another demand for some or other member of the metropolitan liberal elite, this time an undisputed spook, to have the last word over a key part of the political process.

If the Prime Minister is not to be the final arbiter of the Ministerial Code, then why bother having either or a Prime Minister or a Ministerial Code?

Not that I defend Priti Patel in any way. She obviously ought to resign or be sacked. But the Labour MPs who are demanding that are the ones who behaved in the same way or worse towards Jeremy Corbyn, and who are continuing to do so.

Moreover, their Opposition to Patel is from her right. They stand squarely in Tony Blair's tradition of mass criminalisation, of the dismantlement of civil liberties, and of draconian penalties for the tiniest infractions, but only for beastly little commoners or for those of a darker hue.

They are now even led by Keir Starmer, of all people. But I am an Independent candidate for the parliamentary seat of North West Durham at the next General Election. What are you doing?
