Better Placed In Theory?

The running total of potential Conservative rebels against the lockdown is only one more than the number of Liberal Democrat MPs, and contains several of "Parliament's more colourful characters".

John Major had a tiny majority, but Boris Johnson's is 80, so he has no reason to worry about the Teresa Gormans of the present age. On the contrary, this is his useful opportunity to define himself against them.

Tony Blair was on the Today programme, outlining his four-step plan. As ever, he was fawned over. The Establishment that wants Keir Starmer as Prime Minister wants Blair as his éminence grise.

Well, the Labour Party now requires a parliamentary candidate at Sedgefield. Put up or shut up, Blair. Put up or shut up.
