"Scandal" is not a word to be thrown around. But on the scandal of the writing off of Dominic Cummings's Council Tax, the controlling Labour Group on Durham County Council is scandalously silent. Having fought for the Teaching Assistants, the Independents and the Liberal Democrats are again giving voice to the outrage of the electorate.
I wish George Galloway every success at Rutherglen and Hamilton West. But our people are also on hand in Chester-le-Street to provide him with the base from which to take the seat of the Leader of Durham County Council, in an election that George would certainly win if he contested it. I wish that I had thought of this four years ago, when George was a staunch supporter of the Teaching Assistants.
That election will probably not be held until May 2022. By then, I might very well have moved from being older than the Chancellor the Exchequer, to being older than the Prime Minister. Yet Lanchester has had the same Councillor for as long as I have been old enough to vote, and that is not going to change. But change could come to Chester-le-Street West Central. Come on, George. This would be a guaranteed victory, and a proper kick in the teeth of the Labour Right.
