And That Would Be That

The Brexit Party failed to win the Peterborough by-election, a fully fledged Corbynite won it instead, and it is the Liberal Democrats who are ahead in the polls.

Whoever wins the Conservative Leadership Election will become Prime Minister immediately, a few weeks from now. He or she will very probably remain so until May 2022, which will be more than long enough to change the weather. And that winner will be one of the two candidates who had been sent out to the party in the country by the party's MPs.

As Boris Johnson's bad character is finally made an issue, now alongside that of Michael Gove, let no one assume that either of those final candidates, never mind both of them, will be a Brexiteer of even the most nominal kind. And if neither of them was, then a Brexiteer simply would not become Prime Minister, and that would be that.
