No Leading Light As Yet

No candidate to lead the Conservative Party is worth looking at if he will not undertake to cooperate with anyone who was willing, in order to implement Theresa May’s original Prime Ministerial agenda.

Workers’ and consumers’ representation in corporate governance. Shareholders’ control over executive pay, of restrictions on pay differentials within companies. An investment-based Industrial Strategy and infrastructure programme, including greatly increased housebuilding.

Action against tax avoidance, including a ban on public contracts for tax-avoiding companies. A cap on energy prices. Banning or greatly restricting foreign takeovers. A ban on unpaid internships. And an inquiry into Orgreave.

If he can deliver Brexit into the bargain, then so much the better. So, who is that candidate? I for one cannot yet see him.

Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. A new party will be registered before House of Commons rises for the summer recess, even if I have to pay for it myself, ongoing lawfare or no ongoing lawfare.

And I will stand for Parliament here at North West Durham even if I can raise only the deposit, which I could do by going pretty overdrawn, although that was not how I was brought up. I would still prefer to raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign, but I am no longer making my candidacy conditional on having done so. In any event, please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
