Jeremy Corbyn and Tom Watson were elected by the same electorate at the same time. There must have been a huge crossover between their voters, and indeed they were very much "The Ticket" in the summer of 2015.
Far from being a collection of political ingenues and public school Tory larkers about, the voters in this instance were quite clearly sophisticated operators who wanted a more left-wing Leader than ever before, who appreciated that that meant that the Deputy Leader had to embody the traditional Labour Right, and who therefore made it their business to bring that about.
Corbyn, Watson, and many of their respective supporters would all do well to bear that in mind.
