First, Venezuela has a particular and longstanding culture of corruption. That is why the implementation of much the same policies elsewhere in Latin America is not having these effects.
Secondly, Venezuela is subject to crippling American financial sanctions, with a view to forcing the replacement of the present Government with one that would instead hand over the country's oil wealth to American interests. And thirdly, the present Government is therefore still winning elections, and it will continue to do so. Meaning that we should expect an invasion instead. Whenever the London and New York media turn on a country, then an invasion is on its way.
