To Put Things Right

Just sent to Lanchester’s Village Voice. Do look out for it next month:

This year, Remembrance Sunday will fall on Armistice Day itself, the centenary of the Armistice. It is therefore greatly to be hoped that Lanchester will at last see fit to hold its ceremony at the normal time, thereby marking “the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month”.

The reasons why this is not the case are of no remaining interest even to those of us who know them, and involve someone who has been dead for a good many years, having been out of the village for more than 20. This is the ideal year in which to put things right.
