While The Iron Is Hot

Strikes work.

Michael Gove is to attend Cabinet, but he is no longer to be in it. Therefore, his salary is to be cut by £36,000. Performance-related pay, indeed.

The teaching unions have well and truly got their man. The position of Education Secretary is now held at their pleasure. Neither Old Labour nor New Labour ever did that. But that is how things are now.

Still, a Chief Whip who, on coming down from Oxford, was refused employment by the Conservative Research Department on the grounds that it could find no record that he was a Conservative, or even political at all?

And a Chief Whip who still holds frequent, off-the-record meetings with his political patron and former employer, Rupert Murdoch?
