Crede Signo

Even if he was a Unitarian. So are a lot of people in the C of E, the Methodists and the URC, really.

Sir Cyril Smith was wrong about many things, but right about quite a few. His independent-minded local communitarian populism was one of the best things about the old Liberal tradition, and is one of the most significant contributions that it demands to make to the restoration of proper politics.

And it is simply priceless that his mother was his Lady Mayoress in the evenings while the cleaning lady of the same Town Hall in the mornings.
