Still, like Mike Gapes, who seems to have been designed in order to frighten children to sleep, Blunkett is at least an exception to the usual rule about Blairites.
Generally, following Blair himself, they are the people who never needed to cultivate even what little intellect they had, because the world was already organised for the convenience of people who looked like them.
If you cannot remember Chuka Umunna or Luciana Berger at 18, then you must have been Chuka Umunna or Luciana Berger at 18, the age that they themselves have never really left and never will, because why bother if you don't have to?
They look nice enough, but don't expect them to say anything interesting.
By contrast, Blunkett may have been a vicious Home Secretary and if anything an even more vicious Work and Pensions Secretary, mercilessly persecuting people like himself.
And Gapes may have devoted his long political career to furthering the interests of whoever might have been running the United States and Israel at any given time.
But no one could accuse them of being a pair of pretty boys cruising on their own entitlement.
