Of course Labour was always going to vote against whatever, if any, Brexit deal that Theresa May brought back.
And of course enough Conservative MPs were always going to vote against this or that deal that, in consequence, she might have been removed from office.
But her replacement will be of the same ilk. No Leaver could ever make it onto the list of two to be sent out by the MPs to the party in the country, and in any case that in itself is wildly unlikely to happen.
It will be the next Remainer in line, because that is how the Conservative Party works.
Moreover, it is terrified of losing between 10 and 20 seats, if not more, to the Liberal Democrats in the Remain heartlands of the South.
As Private Eye says, an Indian civil servant has proposed partitioning England between a Remainers' homeland in the South and a Leavers' homeland in the North, but the 1947-style transfers of population would be impossible because, unlike in India, the trains do not run.
As for the Lib Dems, they need to be very careful. By reaching out to Remainers in the two main parties, they are reaching out to many of the people who supported the erosion of civil liberties, and who supported the Iraq War.
Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and our people need to hold the balance of power in it. My crowdfunding page is here, or email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com for other options. That address accepts PayPal.
