Debt traps and data traps are how empires grow and live. Then they are how those same empires die, but China is nowhere near there yet. We shall all be long dead by then.
Not for the first time, we who have been through that entire process need to get over ourselves. China is literally more interested in Barbados than in Britain, and while Xi Jinping is many things, no one has ever called him a clown. That he is obnoxious does not mean that, for example, the Islamist insurgents and terrorists in Xinjiang are not.
Meanwhile, after a generation of promoting the relentless dissolution of Yugoslavia, we have decided that we do not like the next stage of that apparently never-ending process. We are not, however, in a position to do the slightest thing about it.
We can't send troops to Bosnia, we need them to rescue people from Aberdeenshire to County Durham.
