Left-wing Labour members may have made many mistakes in their time, but they have never been card-carrying members and employees of the party while working against it on purpose at a General Election.
Across the key marginal seats, the difference between a Labour victory and the eventual result in 2017 was a mere 2,227 votes. Had the money that the staff diverted to their favoured MPs in safe seats, several of whom went on to leave the Labour Party, been spent in the marginals instead, then Labour would have won.
And who were those staff, anyway? How did the Labour Party come to be staffed by people who were so far to the right of public opinion that, for example, they regarded it as "Trotskyist" to want to renationalise the railways, a policy that is consistently favoured by two thirds of the electorate including even the majority of Conservative supporters?
These people have put Keir Starmer where he is. But the Workers Party of Britain exists. The Social Democratic Party exists. Boris Johnson now calls the National Health Service "the beating heart of this country".
And the Budget of March 2020, together with the Government's response to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, have ended the era that began with the Budget of December 1976. Only the party of the 1976 Budget still wishes to live in that era, and it is easily on course to take practically no votes at all next time. The Centre is the think tank for this new era. Please give generously.
