Off Her Hook

Hillary Clinton is this desperate:

If Hillary Clinton has it right, New York needs to build a wall . . . on the Vermont border.

“It’s going to be coming out in the very near future that many of the catastrophes that have taken human lives in the state of New York have been the product of guns coming over the border from Vermont,” Clinton reportedly told a private gathering of Democrats on Monday.

What?

For years, NYPD brass have talked of an Iron Pipeline from the South that ferries guns illegally to the city, to be used in crimes.

But, hey, Clinton has reason to sow distrust of Vermont: That’s where you-know-who lives.

And polls show Bernie Sanders gaining on her, just two weeks before the New York primary — which has turned out to be yuuge in this year’s presidential races.

A recent Quinnipiac poll had Bernie within 12 points of Hillary — down from a 48-point gap in an Emerson poll a few weeks ago.

Worse for Clinton, Sanders is plainly speaking to the hearts of countless Democrats — while Clinton comes across as desperate to say whatever it takes to get her elected.

As in her move to pull out the big, uh . . . guns. It’s the only issue where her record is clearly to his left.

Maybe it’ll work. State Sen. Tim Kennedy, one of the Dems in that meeting with Clinton, said, “I think it caught everybody’s attention.”

No, the facts aren’t on her side: In 2014, officials traced only 55 of 4,585 guns used in New York crimes to Vermont. Before 2013, there were too few to be reported.

Worse, many of the guns that are illegal in the city come from other parts of the Empire State. (A wall on the Yonkers border?)

But don’t expect that to stop Clinton.

After all, the same day she was peddling the Vermont Menace, she jumped in to headline the Fight for $15 rally here in the city — even though she’s only for a $12 minimum wage.

Heck, if she keeps sinking in the polls, don’t be surprised if Hillary starts blaming Bernie personally for New York’s gun murders.

She wants him to apologise for Sandy Hook, although the legislation that he had opposed would have made absolutely no difference to it.

She, however, will not be apologising for her vote on Iraq, nor for her rather more direct involvement in Libya.

A meddlesome First Lady who failed at the project that she had blackmailed her way into being given. A do-nothing Senator. A racist nuisance candidate. A catastrophic Secretary of State.

And now an anti-Semitic nuisance candidate who is using gun violence in general, and the murders of small children in particular, as a kind of blood libel.
