"They Had Religion In The Middle Ages?"

"Yes, Auntie, and they took it really very seriously."

So Friar Tuck is now in Robin Hood.

Mind you, there was religion in the previous series. Specifically, there was what we all know to have been the religion of twelfth-century England. A very liberal version of Islam. Of course.

  1. Oh I think each generation re-makes Robin Hood in their own image.
Errol Flynn, Kevin Costner and Jason Connery..........and I dont know the name of the guy in the current series.
But surely Richard Greenes Robin Hood is the classic for men of my age.
The curious thing is that the 1950s show was written by black listed Hollywood veterans.
Hence the stories on nuclear weapons finding their way into Greenes show (a storyline where gunpowder finds its way to England) and the merrie men and even the sheriff find it too "terrible" and it is agreed that it wont be used.
Likewise the stories involving Jews and a nod to the Holocaust.
You might also recall that the 1980s "Robin the Hooded Man" Praed/Connery show reguarly featured Wiccan type rituals.
