Express Your Mutual Feeling

Paul Leake writes:

There is a petition on the Number 10 website calling for changes to the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, which by and large is seeing many of the mistakes of banks (including the demutualised building societies) being paid for by the building societies that have built up big deposits by being careful with their money. Is it really fair to allow banks to keep the profit of risky lending but expect the ‘boring’ but prudent building societies pick up the tab for bank failures? Of course not - why should member-owned mutuals have to suffer so banks can play a risky game of betting the bank for ever higher dividends.

The petition closes on 15th March and can be found online here.

Make sure you write to your MP. There is an early day motion - 426 - you can ask them to sign to show their support.
