Derided to this day, including by people who were elected on a manifesto commitment to it, Jeremy Corbyn's policy of universal broadband would have cost £20 billion, in return for vastly more in future years. It still would.
But cheered on by those very deriders, who even now refuse to accept that it is over, the war in Afghanistan has cost £22 billion, in return for absolutely nothing at all.
All of that money must have gone somewhere.
