What with the wedding of Declan Donnelly and the death of Cilla Black, I am musing on popular entertainers who manage to obtain ridiculous parodies of the accents of their Northern cities of origin, all the while living in the South.
In her early fame, Cilla had a perfectly normal, and quite soft, Liverpudlian accent.
Ant and Dec have been London-based for 20 years. How do taxi drivers or shop assistants understand what they are saying? That would be hard enough for the ones in Newcastle.
