Labour lost because it didn’t speak clearly enough to
large parts of the electorate and because it failed to show the voters that it
had changed and moved on.
Our members need a Labour government, and they also need
a Labour Opposition that will stand up for them – this is why our unions have
nominated Jeremy Corbyn and why we believe it is in the best interests of our
members that he is elected leader of the Labour Party.
Jeremy Corbyn represents Labour’s biggest chance to alter
the perception that politics doesn’t deliver for the majority.
Polling shows that of the Labour leadership contenders
Jeremy Corbyn is most likely to attract people back to Labour – that he is most
in touch with ordinary people and the one most likely to hold the government to
account.
We want Labour to win, which is why we back Jeremy
Corbyn.
Trade union members come from all walks of life. We know
from our own members’ experiences that the balance in our society has shifted
against the majority of people at work.
Too much work is insecure or poorly-paid, workplace rights
are often insufficiently enforced and are regularly eroded, for many, pay has
not caught up with living costs.
Equal pay is still a long way off.
This has to change – a growing economy requires stronger
workplace protections and investment in skilled work and high-quality public
services.
Jeremy Corbyn has set out an approach that will deliver
this by abandoning austerity and cuts in favour of investment, growth and
building a modern economy – which is why we urge all trade union members to
vote for him.
