O'er Land That Is Lost Now

I could swear that that Palestinian honour guard for Obama was playing Flower of Scotland.

Their Officer Cadets now pass out from Sandhurst, so you never know.

And the lyrics would be more than apposite.

  1. A definite expression of partiality on the day the referendum date was announced. But what land is lost now? Everywhere that was in Scotland in 1314 is in Scotland today while Berwick has come and gone several times in the intervening period. The Crown of Scotland did not annex the Northern Isles until 1471 having had no sort of claim to Shetland until 1468. Scotland has been bigger since Bannockburn and is bigger now but it has never smaller.
