Happy Saint Patrick's Day

Alcoholically even if not liturgically this year.

Some years ago, when Easter Sunday fell on 23rd April, the Daily Mail campaigned in all seriousness, though with a merciful lack of success, for the Church of England and everyone else to move or cancel it in favour of the waving of some flag that most people had never seen until the football tournaments of the 1990s.

Like Saint George's Day, Saint Andrew's Day and Saint David's Day, today (or tomorrow, in years such as this) ought to be a public holiday throughout the United Kingdom.

God Save The Queen.

  1. My father, an ardent Irish Republican, had no problem saying "God save the Queen". He would point out "She has a soul to be saved as well as everyone else"

  2. Ah yes, St. Patrick's day. He was British, as I'm sure you know.

But he wasn't an outsider David. He felt comfortable among the Irish.

He wasn't stood on the periphery, with a sense of not feeling quite like he was fitting in.
