Old Dixie Down

The Fabians are understandably discombobulated at finding themselves well to the right of a Conservative Prime Minister.

But there is hardly anybody in the Fabian Society these days. Most of the Dixiecrats are elsewhere.

Perhaps most notably of all, they are on Durham County Council.

For that is what they are. Dixiecrats.

Ultimately, the Democratic Party could not contain both the Left (by American standards) and by far the most reactionary section of the polity.

Ultimately, nor can Labour.

That ultimate point has been reached.

  1. About 150 seats, say the Fabians? That was where the Tories were in 1997 and look at them now.

  2. It's hilariously bad. "Four million people who voted Labour in 2015 won't vote Labour under Corbyn"? What, have they asked four million people? The main surprise is the Fabian Society still exists, they must all be over 80 by now and I'm not even joking.

  3. Identifying the Labour types to the right of Theresa May with the Dixiecrats is striking but effective. "Ultimately, the Democratic Party could not contain both the Left (by American standards) and by far the most reactionary section of the polity. Ultimately, nor can Labour. That ultimate point has been reached." Yes. That.
