If You Tolerate This

Damn right, MPs will not be sitting in a multiparty mingle. That is not where they are there for.

If there is not a properly contested by-election at Batley and Spen, then there will never be another one, anywhere.

Vacancies will be filled by the Crown, but on the "recommendation" of the party that last won the seat.

With the firm convention that, most by-elections being caused by death, widows and widowers were given first refusal.

Jack Buckby's presumptuous candidacy against the entitled Brendan Cox, or Ed Balls, or whoever, will be cited as the reason why.

At least until everyone assumed that it had always been like this. That always happens very, very quickly in Britain.
