How old do you think that Tory and UKIP supporters tend to be, because they consistently show the same 65 to 70 per cent support for renationalisation as everyone else?
Rail privatisation was an example of how a lazy stand-up comedy routine could become the basis of a significant public policy, and that routine continues to be the sole grounds for defending that policy even 20 years after it was put into effect.
The publicly owned rail companies of other countries, including other member-states, routinely buy up our rail franchises and then overcharge in order to keep fares low at home.
But if there is one thing that the EU will never tolerate, then it is the renationalisation of anything.
For that, we need to leave the EU. As ASLEF and the RMT have been saying a very great deal longer than certain other people.
