After what seems like for ever, the Electoral Commission (late of this place) and the Crown Prosecution Service has finally decided, just before the local and European elections, to put the matter of David Abrahams back in the public mind.
But was David Abrahams the Walter Mitty alleged by the New Labour media? Not if he gave Labour quite that much money, he wasn’t. Not if he was on the Northern Regional Executive while the Prime Minister and a host of other senior figures sat for seats here, he wasn’t (Hilary Armstrong’s um-ing and ah-ing on this subject during the local part of The Politics Show at the time was absolutely hilarious). And not if he had a front row seat for Tony Blair’s farewell speech, he wasn’t.
He was a major player.
And he has been telling the truth.
