Making The Grade

A Cabinet Minister is paid £141,866 per annum.

Just below, a Minister of State who attends Cabinet (such as Margaret Beckett or Caroline Flint) is paid 104,050 per annum.

In the Weird and Wonderful World of Westminster and Whitehall, £37,816 per annum - one and a half times the median wage for full-time work - is regarded as a grading difference.
