Britain is now in the throes of two simultaneous and rival attempts to stage a coup.
Boris Johnson's enemies are increasingly losing sight of their chance to overthrow him, but they are fighting on.
At the same time, Johnson and his supporters are taking control of every organ of civil society, to the point that the Prime Minister is now in operational control of the Metropolitan Police.
It is no wonder that the fighting is so fierce. Whichever side lost this one would be lucky to find any employment in this country for the rest of their lives.
