Calling It

Oh, how the essentially apolitical chancers in and around the Parliamentary Labour Party have laughed at the opposition to the Covert Human Intelligence Sources (Criminal Conduct) Bill. But we who have ever been active on the Left do not suspect these things. We know them.

Just as we know that elections are rigged by the kind of people who accrue to the right wings of the American Democratic Party, of the British Labour Party, and so on. We have watched them do it. We have watched them do it to us.

But we have had no redress, because they also have a pronounced tendency to control the means of public prosecution. Again, we know whereof we speak. The prospect of President Harris or Prime Minister Starmer almost literally scares the life out of us. Indeed, some of us would expect our bodies never to be found, and our names never to be mentioned again.

With the elevation of Keir Starmer, wholly without any media scrutiny, the Crown Prosecution Service has finally ended any pretence at political independence or impartiality. Had Starmer become Leader of the Labour Party even only very slightly earlier than he did, then I would have been acquitted, at least by any jury that the CPS had not packed. Now that he is, then I would be, on that grounds, at least by any jury that the CPS had not packed.

Again, jury-packing and such like are nothing new to us. To those who are revolted at the stench coming out of the citadels of the right wing of the Democratic Party, Durham County Halls on another shore, we can only say, "Welcome to our world." In Britain, your outrage would be credible only if you now joined us in the fight against the Spycops Bill. I am a declared and active candidate for the parliamentary seat of North West Durham at the next General Election. Please give generously.
