Edging Closer

These are right-wing Members of the Knesset, demonstrating in support of IS because it is at war with Hezbollah.

But where is Owen Smith? Brushing up his knowledge of Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber, no doubt.

Whatever you do, don't tell him about this:

"The Bob Crow Brigade (BCB), a group of British and Irish volunteers fighting in northern Syria named after a famous British trade union leader, are edging closer to the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa."

Today, I am more convinced than ever of the need to get George Galloway back into Parliament as soon as possible.

And of the need to get as many as possible of our people into Parliament in 2020.

And of the need of our own mass media.

  2. Galloway wanted the Soviet Union brought back in 2002.

How can any serious person support any "anti-war" campaign by someone who pines for the return of the most war-like, bloodthirsty, imperialist empire ever created?

    1. No, he said that he regretted the disintegration of that federation of republics, and the emergence of a unipolar world (less so now than in 2002, anyway) after the end of the Cold War.

Who would deny either of those points now? Or even in 2002? Other than, arguably, in the Baltic States, of which of the USSR's successor regimes do you approve? They are in any case defined by what were never intended to be international borders, and do not work properly, if at all, as such.

Of the matters about which Smith has today shown himself to be pig ignorant, George's knowledge is encyclopaedic. Parliament needs him. The nation and the world need him in Parliament.

  3. I love it when people who go on about things George never even said about the USSR ask if we would want supporters of apartheid South Africa or Pinochet's Chile in Parliament. Hello, hundreds of them are already there. One of them was Prime Minister until last month.

    1. The Blair Government was also less than exemplary on the subject of Pinochet. As EDM 288 made clear on 1st February 2001, and as EDM 444 made clear on 21st December 2004. The primary sponsor of both motions was Jeremy Corbyn.

  4. No, he didn't say any of that.

He said " If you are asking did I support the Soviet Union, yes I did.

Yes, I did support the Soviet Union, and I think the disappearance of the Soviet Union is the biggest catastrophe of my life.""

    It's clear and unequivocal.

He supported the most murderous and tyrannical regime in the 20th century.

    1. Quite apart from the fact that that was probably Mao's China anyway, it is obvious from the context, and from everything that he has said on the subject before and since, that he meant exactly what I said.

  5. "of which of the USSR's successor regimes do you approve?""

Like civilised people, I celebrate the destruction of the most genocidal and tyrannical empire in history.

What people chose to elect in its place is up to them.

Come to think of it, do you approve of the utterly appalling "successor regime" to FW De Klerk, rejected now even by its own former supporters?

That's hardly an argument for the return of apartheid, (any more than anything you have said is an argument for the Soviet Union).

  6. If you ever get to visit Budapest or Prague, I should tell them you regret the passing of the Soviet Union and think they'd be better under Soviet rule.

Try telling them, Lindsay. Just try it.

    1. They weren't in the Soviet Union. If you can't even get that right.

Although it was before you were born, people like you really did think that they had lived through the End of History. More than that, they they thought that they had brought it about.

But they hadn't, on either count. Confrontation with that reality is hitting you all very hard indeed. Ho, hum.
