The Rough With The Smooth

The Sun and the Daily Mail have both declared for Theresa May. She is home and dry.

Meanwhile, the Labour Leadership challenge is like the Article 50 notification: believe in it when you see it, and not one second before.

It turns out that Angela Eagle registered her campaign website before even the sacking of Hilary Benn, never mind her own tearful resignation.

But then, does anyone doubt that Michael Gove, or at any rate Sarah Vine, planned the knifing of Boris Johnson from the very start?

The MPs whose invitations to the Durham Miners' Gala have been rescinded include one whose office is inside the Durham Miners' Hall.

That is also the address from which Labour North publishes election literature. But for how much longer?

There is one County Durham MP, and they are all Labour, who is never invited to the Gala, anyway. Even Tony Blair used to be invited. But not this one.

A few hours ago, someone whom I have known for nearly 30 years told me that the Labour coup plotters would murder Jeremy Corbyn if he did not resign.

Well, as very longterm readers will recall, the Blairite Right did once, if rather incompetently, plot to murder even little old me.

Politics is a rough old trade, brothers and sisters. A very, very, very rough old trade.
