Why is Jacqui Smith on this evening's Any Questions (which I shan't hear until tomorrow, since I am dining with a delightful peeress before catching up with my tutees)? After the 2005 Election, the media in general and Radio Four in particular treated Oona King as if she were still a front line politician, insofar as she ever was one. Smith undoubtedly was one. But she no longer is. Is she?
