Under Threat
"The biggest threat to our way of life" is, by a country mile, the erosion of our liberty by reference to supposed threats to our way of life. If lots of plots really are being foiled all the time, then the present powers are working. So why do those who have them need further ones? That is a good place to start. But certainly not to end.

What is interesting is that traditional law enforcement techniques really do seem to be the best method for dealing with terrorism, not direct military intervention, which has likely just exacerbated the threat.
ReplyDeleteIf the West was less interventionist and stuck with traditional law enforcement, there would be no “need” to encroach upon our civil liberties since it would reduce the number of people that wanted to do us harm while allowing us to catch the few hardcore types.
