We're All In This Together

So Ed Miliband attended the Defence Review Statement instead of the TUC rally against the cuts? Well, of course he did. One and the same cause. Supplying our Armed Forces (as only we should do, just as we should not supply foreign ones) is one our last great manufacturing industries, heavily unionised accordingly.

Aircraft carriers without aircraft? I ask you! But as for closer co-operation with the French, there are only three things that could scupper any single EU defence "capability" under day-to-day German control but overall American command, as demanded by the Henry Jackson Society and by all the rest of Liam Fox's neocon handlers. One is the re-emergence of an America faithful to the own-business-minding vision of Washington's Farewell Address, last properly articulated by a President in that of Eisenhower. The second is the Parliamentary Labour Party, if seated behind the Government rather than the Opposition front bench. And the third is the French.
