Let There Be Light

It turns out that low-energy light bulbs should come with health warnings. But the lobby in favour of them won’t care, because it doesn’t really care about people. If it did, then it would support their employment by nuclear power stations, and indeed by new clean coal power stations in Kent and elsewhere.

But that lobby wants is to remain dependent on Arab oil and Russian gas instead of building many new nuclear power stations and applying clean coal technology to a resource in which we are self-sufficient. Therefore, it wants us remain subject to the forces that are pushing through the roof the fuel and power bills of ordinary households and small businesses.

We need nuclear power. We need clean coal. And we need to energy suppliers that are compelled to use them because they exist to serve public need.
