Those Who Can

Unlike the Police, teachers can strike. So they have, quite rightly in itself, been given a pay increase in accordance with real rate of inflation, which is about four per cent.

It is, however, quite another matter whether or not this will compensate for the proposed funding of Academies by existing private schools, i.e., for staff from such schools to be drafted in to tell those from the state sector how to do their jobs, on the automatic assumption that they know better, rather than just that they have never had to deal with ... well, pretty much anything at all, really.

  1. They're only giving it to us over three years. If private schools are going to run the academies that everywhere is being forced to become, then state school teachers should be paid the same as the private school teachers who are going to be lording it over us.

  2. The private schools are not the best schools. The remaining grammar schools are. Bring back grammar schools everywhere.
