The next time that Nadhim Zahawi walked into a Cabinet meeting, then everyone else should walk out. The same should happen on the floor of the House of Commons. It won't. But it should.
Zahawi falsely denied being a beneficiary of Balshore Investments, thereby saving himself about £3.7 million in capital gains tax. I did time with men who had done a lot worse than that. But I also did time with men who had done nothing that bad.
As with David Laws, paying back the money, if Zahawi even did pay back all of it, would not on its own pay the debt to society. Yet as with Laws, at worst Zahawi is looking at a brief spell out of the Cabinet before being brought back as at least an attendee.
The media blackout on this is disgusting.
ReplyDeleteBut wholly unsurprising.
