The Conservatives are the second largest bloc both in the Scottish Parliament and in the Senedd. Which of the measures would the Conservatives repeal that were normal in Canada, in New Zealand or elsewhere in Western Europe, by no means only in the EU, but which were supposed to have turned Scotland into Venezuela or Zimbabwe by now? It must be said that those measures were adopted quite a while ago; the present Scottish Government is a very different story.
And which of the, yes, largely Corbynite measures that were about to be adopted in Wales would the Conservatives repeal? Again, those measures would be normal in Canada, in New Zealand or elsewhere in Western Europe, by no means only in the EU. Well, then, why can we not have both those and the Scottish ones in England, too? What say the six Conservative MPs for Scotland and the fully 14 for Wales?
That is before we even start about the DUP and the UUP, both of which are in government, where neither of them is notably austere in the fiscal sense of the word. So, what about the rest of us, then? We are only asking to be normal. Normal within the Old Commonwealth. Normal within Western Europe, by no means only in the EU. Specifically, therefore, normal among non-EU countries in Western Europe. Normal within the United Kingdom. And normal by the Conservatives' and their allies' own definition of the word.
Dear God, I wish you were in Parliament.
